January Art Challenge: Change
January, much like the color of the year, Greenery, represents change, new beginnings, and renewal. I’ve always looked to January with hope in my heart, a little extra spring in my step, and a mind full of wonderful possibilities for the year to come.
This year is no different either. I’ve set several goals for myself, and I’m a little nervous, a little scared, but excited too. Change is always like that, you know? You can’t help but ask yourself, will the change be good or bad? Will it be a success or failure? The only way to figure it out, though, is to take a deep breath and jump in with both feet.
So, one foot in front of the other, here I go! What does that mean for all of you lovely readers out there? Well, the blog is getting a total design overhaul. A new logo, and even an online store too! Don’t worry, though, the look may be different with a new added feature or two, but the posts will still be the same. So get ready for a new look, and lots of fun projects, tutorials, recipes and humorous stories too.
Now, on to this month’s art challenge piece. It’s a mixed-media 9x14-inch piece titled “Change”. First I painted an abstract background. My inspiration was the color of the year, Greenery. This type of painting is so freeing to me. I add the paint directly to the background instead of a paint pallet. Then… Well… When I take the brush in my hand, it’s like it looks inside of me, and I find myself painting how I feel at that moment in time. Often times it ends up looking sort of like a beautiful chaos, but sometimes that’s just how I feel.
Anyway, after that was done, I drew a figure wearing a nicely tailored jacket and graphic t-shirt. The way she’s holding the jacket makes me wonder is she opening the jacket to show off the “change” or is she about to close it because she’s not ready yet? This year, I’m determined to open the jacket up wide and allow the change to happen, to embrace it and let it grow and become whatever it may be.
So, here’s to change folks! May 2017 be filled with many bright and happy things.
Anyway, as always ya’ll, even though I’ve created this as a personal challenge, if any of ya’ll are inspired by the challenges too I would love to see your work. Just email me at Krena@thimblebelle.com with a jpeg of your piece along with your name and title of your work. I’ll post a few of the pieces on Thimble Belle’s Facebook page along with next month’s challenge.
Until next time ya’ll, happy creating!
